William Jasper Monument in Madison
Oil on Linen Canvas
9" x 9"

At the center of Madison Square stands the William Jasper Monument, honoring the Revolutionary War hero mortally wounded nearby during the 1779 Siege of Savannah. Beneath the shade of live oaks and Spanish Moss, Madison Square gathers several layers of Savannahian memory - beauty and war, freedom and its precise contradiction, cinema and legend - all quietly sharing the same ground.
