"Ossabaw, Untouched by Time"
Oil on Canvas Panel
11" x 14"
Ossabaw Island is a barrier island and heritage preserve off the Georgia coast, twenty miles south of Savannah, with beautiful woodlands, beaches, and tidal marshes. Ossabaw's most interesting feature is its remarkable history, from the Native Americans who inhabited it thousands of years ago to the enslaved Africans who worked its plantations, and to Eleanor "Sandy" Torrey West, who devoted much of her life to preserving the island's natural beauty. Thanks largely to her efforts, Ossabaw remains one of Georgia's last great undeveloped barrier islands.
