Friend of Show - Tomochichi Level

$ 200.00

Chief Tomochichi was th e leader of a Yamacraw community located on the site of present-day Savannah.  A skilled diplomat and respected leader, he forged a friendship with James Oglethorpe, who arrived to establish Georgia, the thirteenth American colony.  Tomochichi granted Oglethorpe permission to settle on Yamacraw Bluff, where the city of Savannah would take root.

Throughout his life, Tomochichi worked to build a cooperative relationship between the Yamacraw people and the new settlers.  He negotiated trade agreements, encouraged educational opportunities for his people and helped maintain peace and mutual understanding during the colony's formative years.  His leadership and vision laid the groundwork for a community that could grow and prosper through cooperation and shared purpose.

You can help continue that spirit of partnership by becoming a Georgia Color Plein Air Friend of the Show at the Tomochichi Level.  Friends support Georgia artists as they capture and celebrate the landscapes, architecture, traditions and everyday moments that define Savannah and communities throughout the state.
