RICH'S DOWNTOWN CLOCK - $5,000

M. Rich & Co., a dry good store, opened in 1867 in downtown Atlanta.  After a few years of operation it was considered one of the five top stores in the city.  In 1907, the flagship store was dedicated in downtown.  The clock became an icon with its "RICHSATLANTA" appearing in place of numerals.  Rich's became a leading retailer in the United States.  As consolidation began in the 1990s, Federated Department Stores purchased Rich's, only to be swallowed by Macy's.  Atlanta lost a beloved retailer.  However, the building still stands and the Rich's Downtown Clock remains.
