Piers and docks are expensive to build and repair. We see dilapidated docks everywhere in Savannah. Some are in front of beautiful homes on the Wilmington River, others are in creeks where they have been abandoned. This abstracted sunrise landscape shows a rickety dock in the middle of the painting and a decaying pier in the foreground. It was reworked several times in order to get the shimmering effect of the water.
