"Joined At The Hip" depicts the shrimp boat Thunder Belle as she has been moored in Cortez, Fl for several years without moving. She has layers of patina which only enhance her magnificent stature. I was attracted to the triangle of light on her bow and fascinated by the artistic potential and muted palette.
This painting is unique in that it received the award for "Best Landscape" at the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS) National Exhibition 2023 and the award for "Best Seascape" at the Oil Painters of America (OPA) Eastern Regional 2023. It's rare for a painting to be both a Best Landscape and a Best Seascape! In fact, I don't think I've heard that happening before.
